Contemporary art is many-sided and audacious. It is very innovative in its nature in regards to ideas and technical means. This is an art of the new generation influenced by Internet and other modern technologies that helped to enlarge the number of means used by artists.

Among such contemporary artists is Marumiyan, a talented guy from Japan who has recently been chosen as one of the “10 Top Artists” in the design magazine MdN - a general information magazine for graphic and design (Japan). He works with various media, such as posters, flyers, websites and CD jackets. Currently he is living in Fukuoka City, one of the Japanese five largest cities that provides excellent opportunities for different types of activities.
Marumiyan has agreed with pleasure to give us an interview and share his experience, ideas and thoughts concerning his creative process and artworks. So, let’s start!

What’s your background? What or who has had the most influence on you?
My father and cousin drew the pictures. It was their hobby. I was also interested in drawing in my childhood.
I studied design in the university.

How does your process of drawing a picture flow? What do you usually start with?
First, I have an image that I want to create, and draw the objects and take pictures that will be a good match for my image.

What are the main principles or rules of creating an illustration you use in your daily work?
It is important for me to enjoy creating.
And I hope people enjoy my artworks as well.

What are the main topics of your creative works? What objects do you like to illustrate most and why?
I like to illustrate natural objects such as flowers and animals.
They make the artwork vivid and brilliant.

As it was mentioned on your personal website, you began to draw pictures from the early childhood. Can you please provide us with some of your early works?

Inspiration comes from many sources. What sources do you usually use?
I usually set up antenna (I mean I usually look for something interesting).

Being so young, how do you see your future? What are you aspiring to?
I don’t know my future at all.
I’m not what I was so I will not be what I am.
I may change my style but I think I will go on creating something.

What would you suggest to beginning illustrators?
I also have just started, but I hope they enjoy creating as well.
