Digital Graffiti and Graffiti Style Artworks!

November 12th, 2008

Digital graffiti in no way should not be comparable to physical graffiti because physical is all handmade and colored out by hand, whereas digital is made with the help of computer. Many people think that digital graffiti ruins the whole point of graffiti. They reckon that it needs to be sprayed on “real” backgrounds like walls, trains or house fronts and etc. So, it’s up to you whether digital graffiti is still stays to be an art, like some new way of creative expression or it is absolutely unnecessary.

We just would like to bring to your notice a collection of amazing, stylish digital graffiti and graffiti style works created by different artists. So, enjoy!

Surreal Paintings from Two Amazing Artists - Vladimir Kush and Jim Warren!

October 30th, 2008

Ars longa, vita brevis… I always remember this Latin phrase originally said by the Ancient Greek philosopher Hippocrates, when I see gorgeous art pieces. Art is what makes me think about the life and its meaning, it is what allows me to look at the world from another side. It helps me plunge into another reality.

So, today, I would like to present the works of the international celebrities, two of the greatest surreal artists, masters of imagination - Vladimir Kush and Jim Warren. Currently they are living in the United States and continuing to create amazing masterpieces that are much admired by everybody. Enjoy this art of Vladimir Kush and Jim Warren that will surpass all your expectations!

* * *

Vladimir Kush was born in Russia. His career as an artist began when he was a child of 3 or 4. In spite of the fact that his father was a scientist, everyone on his side of the family used to draw all the time. From an early age Vladimir attended art classes where he studied the history of art and painted his first surreal picture. Then, at the age of 17, he entered Moscow Art Institute.

In 1987, Vladimir began selling his paintings and exhibiting with the Union of Artists. At that time, he was invited to paint a series of portraits for the U.S. Embassy staff. In 1990 he took part in a show in Germany with two other Russian artists. And he was a great success. Then he went to Los Angeles, where he sent 20 of his recent works for a showing. This was a beginning of his American odyssey, as Vladimir says.

Public Art: Astonishing Ideas!

October 29th, 2008

Public Art is arousing our thinking, provoking our curiosity and energizing our public spaces. It possesses a great ability of transforming the place we live in into a special world, into better, friendlier environment. Public art, in the broad sense of the word, is any work of art or design created by an artist specifically to be sited in a public space.

And this blog post is devoted to astonishing and creative pieces of public art. Here you will see interactive towers, gigantic sculptures, surrealistic statues, painted houses, stone, rubber and wooden sculptured figures, original bus stops and even carpets made of flowers. You will visit the annual exhibition of modern and contemporary sculpture in the beautiful Chatsworth garden in Derbyshire, Bruno’s Art and Sculpture Garden in Australia and many other beautiful places that can boast of the matchless masterpieces.

This amazing piece of public art was designed by artist Lawrence Argent and commissioned by the city of Denver, CO. The project is 42-ft (12.2m) tall. It was installed in Denver with the help of four semi-trucks and a large crane. The original form was first scanned using a Cyberware 3D scanner and then animated into position using Newtek’s Lightwave. This gigantic blue Bear was placed in front of the Convention Center.

The D-Tower is part of the Tower Project in the Dutch town Doetinchem. It is an interactive art project. The City’s inhabitants can decide which color the tower should have on the following night: Red for Love, Purple for Happiness, Yellow for Fear and Green for Hate. It is the first of total 5 artistic towers (A, B, C, D, E), to be placed on the locations of the city’s five former gates.
This first tower is a creation of the artist Q.S. Serafijn and the architect Lars Spuybroek.

Finland Graphic Designer and Illustrator Olli-Pekka Jauhiainen. Speaks Out.

October 17th, 2008

We’d like to let you know about people we think are doing great work. And with this purpose we continue the interview series. So, now, dear friends, please meet a 26 year old graphic designer and illustrator from Finland - Olli-Pekka Jauhiainen! He is currently living in Helsinki and finishing his studies at the TAMK University of Applied Science, where he specializes in Digital Media. Among his works we may find surreal photomanipulations, 3D experiments and illustrations. They all excel in both creativity/originality and technical execution. Olli-Pekka plays with metaphors and symbols, putting strong ideas and original concepts into his works. You might have seen some of his works on the pages of our blog, where we have used his creations more than once.

Moreover, Olli-Pekka has good experience in website design and coding (HTML/CSS/PHP & Flash) and creates beautiful websites, examples of which are also presented here. Visit Olli-Pekka Jauhiainen’s website to read more about him.

Now, let’s go to the interview.

Tell our readers about yourself, your background and education. Was there a turning-point in your life when you decided to cast your lot with computer graphics?

I’m a 26 years old male from Helsinki, Finland. I’m finishing my studies in Tampere University of Applied Science where I’m spelializing in Digital Media. I used to draw a lot when I was at the age of 10-15 but then hobbies, girls etc., the usual, took me away from it. But luckily after my military service at the age of 22, I got accepted to my current school and I was introduced to Photoshop. So I guess I could say that was the turning-point towards the computer graphics world. Even though my school isn’t really teaching computer graphics, (it is more about web coding or interactive media like Flash) the reason why I started learning Photoshop was the school. The needed inspiration came from there.
